Locksmith in work clothing bent over the cylinder lock of a green front door in a sunlit tiled Lisbon doorway, tool case open on the step

Emergency locksmith in Lisbon, day or night.

Being honest

What a brand with 24 in its name owes you

Plenty of numbers in this city promise a van within the hour at any time of night. That promise is only worth as much as whoever picks up the phone, and this site has no phone room. So here is the version that can actually be kept.

Requests are taken at any hour

Nothing closes. A message sent at three in the morning is read and pushed out to whoever covers that area, in the same way as one sent at eleven on a Tuesday.

Night availability is thin and it varies

Genuine out-of-hours locksmithing in Greater Lisbon is a small pool of independent people. Some nights somebody is free within the hour. Some nights nobody is, and you will hear that instead of being kept warm.

Out of hours costs more, everywhere

A night or holiday callout carries a premium in every market and this one is no exception. That is not a scam by itself. A price that only appears once the person is standing at your door is.

Damage tonight

How to make a broken door safe until morning

If the emergency is a forced or broken door rather than a lockout, the goal changes. You are not trying to get a perfect repair at midnight; you are trying to reach daylight with the flat secure.

  • Photograph everything before you touch it. The splintered frame, the position of the bolt, the marks on the outside. Insurers and the police ask for exactly this and it cannot be recreated tomorrow.
  • Report a break-in before the door is repaired. A PSP report made the same night carries weight that one made two days later does not, and most home policies require it.
  • A door that will not lock can often still be secured. A temporary cylinder, a bolt fitted to sound wood, or in the worst case a board — enough to get through the night, with the real repair booked in daylight.
  • Do not sleep behind a door held shut by furniture. It is a fire risk and it gives you a false sense of safety. If nobody can come, staying somewhere else is the better answer.
  • Check the frame, not only the lock. A forced door usually loses the strike plate and part of the jamb; fitting a new cylinder into a broken frame protects nothing at all.
  • Ask what tonight's work is and what tomorrow's is. A proper emergency visit ends with a clear line between the temporary fix and the real repair, including what each part costs.

What counts as urgent here, in practice. A door that no longer closes or locks. A break-in. Somebody vulnerable shut inside or shut out. Keys stolen together with something showing your address. A stuck key on a door you can still get through, a lock that has been stiff for a month, or a cylinder you have decided to upgrade are all normal appointments — sending them as emergencies only makes them more expensive.

The published call-out reference used on this site is €30, and the extra charged for night and holiday work sits on top of the job itself. Typical range according to public listings and price pages — indication, not a quote. Night reach

Where a night request is realistic

After dark the map shrinks. The dense city and the first ring keep a genuine chance through the night; the further out you go, the more an urgent request turns into a first-thing-tomorrow appointment. Cross-river requests after midnight are the hardest of all, so say clearly whether you can wait.

Urgent questions

The things people ask after midnight

Somebody has broken into my flat. Locksmith or police first?

Police first if there is any chance the person is still inside, and do not go in yourself. Once the PSP has been and gone, the locksmith request is about making the door close and lock again tonight, with a proper repair booked for daylight.

My keys were stolen with my address on the keyring. How fast does this need fixing?

Treat it as tonight rather than this week. Somebody holding both the key and the address has everything they need. Changing the cylinder is enough in most cases; the whole lock only needs replacing if it is damaged or ancient.

Is there a surcharge just for calling at night?

Almost always, and it is normal practice rather than a trick. What matters is that the surcharge is quoted before anyone travels, not revealed on your doormat. Ask for the total including call-out and IVA in a message you can keep.

Can a locksmith get into a building with an entryphone at 2am?

Only if somebody lets them in, which is why the request should name whoever is going to open the street door — you, a neighbour or the porteiro. A wasted trip to a locked lobby still gets billed.

Nothing is broken but the door will not close properly. Is that an emergency?

It is if it will not lock and you have to leave the place, or you are sleeping behind it. In late summer especially, swollen wood and shifted frames stop bolts lining up. It is often adjusted rather than replaced, which is good news for the price.

Do I really have to be there?

Somebody does, and they need to be able to show the address belongs to them. If it cannot be you, name the person who will be there and give their number in the request, so nobody is standing outside arguing about who is allowed to authorise what.

Right now

Say what happened, in one message

Break-in, broken lock or a door that will not shut — one line and one photo is enough to work out whether tonight is realistic.

Door that will not lock tonight?

Send what happened and where. You will get a realistic answer rather than a promise.
