Plenty of numbers in this city promise a van within the hour at any time of night. That promise is only worth as much as whoever picks up the phone, and this site has no phone room. So here is the version that can actually be kept.
Nothing closes. A message sent at three in the morning is read and pushed out to whoever covers that area, in the same way as one sent at eleven on a Tuesday.
Genuine out-of-hours locksmithing in Greater Lisbon is a small pool of independent people. Some nights somebody is free within the hour. Some nights nobody is, and you will hear that instead of being kept warm.
A night or holiday callout carries a premium in every market and this one is no exception. That is not a scam by itself. A price that only appears once the person is standing at your door is.
If the emergency is a forced or broken door rather than a lockout, the goal changes. You are not trying to get a perfect repair at midnight; you are trying to reach daylight with the flat secure.
What counts as urgent here, in practice. A door that no longer closes or locks. A break-in. Somebody vulnerable shut inside or shut out. Keys stolen together with something showing your address. A stuck key on a door you can still get through, a lock that has been stiff for a month, or a cylinder you have decided to upgrade are all normal appointments — sending them as emergencies only makes them more expensive.
The published call-out reference used on this site is €30, and the extra charged for night and holiday work sits on top of the job itself. Typical range according to public listings and price pages — indication, not a quote. Sources: an OLX locksmith listing for Algés, the published Bricovitor call-out reference, Zaask's lock-replacement guide and Fixando's page for fitting locks and safes, all read in August 2026.
After dark the map shrinks. The dense city and the first ring keep a genuine chance through the night; the further out you go, the more an urgent request turns into a first-thing-tomorrow appointment. Cross-river requests after midnight are the hardest of all, so say clearly whether you can wait.

Police first if there is any chance the person is still inside, and do not go in yourself. Once the PSP has been and gone, the locksmith request is about making the door close and lock again tonight, with a proper repair booked for daylight.
Treat it as tonight rather than this week. Somebody holding both the key and the address has everything they need. Changing the cylinder is enough in most cases; the whole lock only needs replacing if it is damaged or ancient.
Almost always, and it is normal practice rather than a trick. What matters is that the surcharge is quoted before anyone travels, not revealed on your doormat. Ask for the total including call-out and IVA in a message you can keep.
Only if somebody lets them in, which is why the request should name whoever is going to open the street door — you, a neighbour or the porteiro. A wasted trip to a locked lobby still gets billed.
It is if it will not lock and you have to leave the place, or you are sleeping behind it. In late summer especially, swollen wood and shifted frames stop bolts lining up. It is often adjusted rather than replaced, which is good news for the price.
Somebody does, and they need to be able to show the address belongs to them. If it cannot be you, name the person who will be there and give their number in the request, so nobody is standing outside arguing about who is allowed to authorise what.
Break-in, broken lock or a door that will not shut — one line and one photo is enough to work out whether tonight is realistic.
Send what happened and where. You will get a realistic answer rather than a promise.
