What this is

A matching service, and what the 24 in the name really covers

Worth clearing up in the first paragraph rather than the small print. This brand carries no keys, drills nothing and holds no licence. It takes your request and hands it to an independent locksmith who works where you are.

You describe the door

A wooden street door in Alfama with a hundred-year-old lever lock is a different job from a reinforced apartment door in Parque das Nações with three deadbolts. The five questions in the form are the ones a locksmith asks on the phone before getting in the car.

An independent locksmith takes it

Whoever turns up runs their own business. They set the price, issue the invoice with IVA and answer for the work in their own name. Nothing on this site is marked up and nothing is added to what they charge.

The 24 means requests, not staffing

The name comes from the domain and from the fact that lockouts do not keep office hours. Requests are accepted at any hour and pushed out immediately. What is never claimed is that somebody is sitting by a phone all night — that would be a promise this brand has no way to keep.

How it works

From standing on the landing to a locksmith at the door

Four steps, and only the first one is yours.

01

Send the situation

Area, what happened to the lock, and how to reach you. A photo of the lock face saves a whole round of questions.

02

We read it properly

A jammed cylinder, a snapped key and a door slammed on the latch need three different sets of tools. They are not the same call.

03

You get matched

The job goes to a locksmith covering your area and you get their name. From that point you deal with them directly.

04

They price it, you decide

The number comes from the locksmith and it comes before the drill does. You are free to say no and call somebody else.

Typical jobs

What people in Lisbon actually send in

If your problem is on this list, somebody in Greater Lisbon does exactly that several times a week.

  • Door pulled shut with the keys inside — the most common request of all, and usually the cheapest to solve, because a latch can often be slipped without touching the lock itself.
  • Key snapped off in the cylinder — half the key is in your hand and half is in the door. Do not push the remaining half further in; that turns a cheap extraction into a replacement.
  • Keys lost, stolen or left in a taxi — the question then is not opening the door but whether the lock still protects anything, which is a different job with a different price.
  • Cylinder that turns but does not open — a worn or dropped cam, common in older Lisbon doors that have swollen and shifted over decades of damp winters.
  • Reinforced door that will not release — three-point locks and armoured doors need somebody who has met them before, otherwise the door itself becomes the expensive part.
  • Locks after a break-in or a change of tenant — planned work, priced calmly, and the one moment where it is worth asking what standard the new cylinder meets.

Where this works

Greater Lisbon, both banks of the Tejo

Distance behaves differently in a lockout than in any other trade. Nobody is waiting for a part; somebody simply has to arrive. That makes the honest coverage question not "do you serve this area" but "who is already near it right now", and the answer changes by the hour.

Straight answers

What people ask before they send anything

Is Locksmith 24 Lisbon a locksmith company?

No. It is a matching service. The person who arrives at your door is an independent business who prices the job, invoices it and answers for it in their own name. This site does no locksmithing and takes no cut of what you pay.

Does the 24 in the name mean somebody is always available?

It means requests are taken at any hour and pushed out straight away. It does not mean a guaranteed answer at four in the morning, because there is no way to promise that honestly without a permanent night team behind it. You will be told what is realistic rather than what sounds good.

What does using this cost me?

Nothing. Sending the request is free, and you are under no obligation to accept the price you are given. You pay the locksmith for the work at the price the two of you agreed, and nothing at all to this site.

Will I have to prove the place is mine?

Expect to be asked, and take it as a good sign. A locksmith who opens any door for anybody is a locksmith with a problem. An identity document with the address, a utility bill, a tenancy contract on your phone or a neighbour who knows you are normally enough.

Do I have to speak Portuguese?

No. Write in English and the Portuguese side is handled for you. Do keep in mind that the locksmith may prefer Portuguese once on site, so having the street, number, floor and door written down on your phone genuinely speeds things up.

What if the price on the doorstep is not the price I was told?

Stop before any tool touches the door and ask for the full number, including the call-out and IVA. This trade has a documented reputation problem with prices that grow on arrival, which is exactly why the figures on this site are published openly. Tell us if it happens — somebody who does that stops getting requests from here.

Faster than the form

Send a photo of the lock instead

One picture of the lock face and the door edge tells a locksmith more in two seconds than a form does in two minutes. WhatsApp works fine.
